Ralph Nader: Night Shift Campaigner

Nader will campaign in the nighttime hours to reach out to the workers that keep our society going during the midnight shift and receive little attention from the Presidential campaigns of John McCain and Barack Obama.

The following stops are scheduled:

10:00 p.m. - Broadway Diner, 6501 Eastern Ave Baltimore, MD
11:10 p.m. - Fifth District Police Station, 1805 Bladensburg Rd NE Washington, DC
11:40 p.m. - CVS Pharmacy, 1403 Wisconsin Ave NW Washington, DC
11:50 p.m. - Georgetown Café, 1623 Wisconsin Ave NW Washington, DC

Millions of workers work the midnight shift in our country that operate essential facilities while the rest of America is asleep. They are fire and police workers, nurses and doctors, all-night drug stores and restaurants, delivery people, toll booth operators and highway and mass transit maintenance laborers. They are working in the dwindling factories which operate three shifts or guarding facilities both private and public. They sustain nursing homes, hotels and motels, and staff emergency-alert communications operations. They drive the lonely all-night truck, railroad, air and maritime routes around the country.

In recognition and respect of these workers, independent candidate for president, Ralph Nader, will visit some of these locations during their night shift. He will convey to workers the Nader/Gonzalez agenda for the betterment of our country and its place in a wider world that a majority of Americans support – including full Medicare for all, a living wage, redirecting waste and redundancies in bloated military budgets, tax shelters and corporate subsidies to a large public works repair and upgrading jobs program in every community. Nader/Gonzalez champion expanded labor rights, consumer protections and the enforcement of laws against corporate crime fraud and abuse. Occupational health and safety programs to protect workers are high on the Nader/Gonzalez priorities. OSHA – anesthetized by both major political parties – estimates that 58,000 Americans die every year due to workplace related diseases and trauma.
