Polls Show Support for the Independent Nader/Gonzalez Ticket in 2008

Ralph Nader will bring his independent presidential campaign to Buffalo Friday April 25 with a 2:30 pm rally at The Ukrainian American Civic Center, 205 Military Ave, Buffalo. General admission, $10 contribution, R.S.V.P, (716) 479-2351.
Mr. Nader will address issues major party candidates have taken "off the table" that the Nader/Gonzalez campaign has put back on the table, including:

a definitive, comprehensive military and corporate withdrawal date from Iraq;
-
single-payer, expanded Medicare-style health insurance for all;
-
a living wage, labor law reform and repeal of the anti-union Taft-Hartley Act;
-
a no-nuke solar-based sustainable energy policy;
-
a carbon tax to deter global warming;
-
an end to the corporate welfare and corporate crime that has resulted in millions losing pensions, savings and jobs; and,
-
more direct democracy.
Polling shows Mr. Nader's support is stronger than during his 2004 run for the presidency.
Zogby International conducted the first national poll on March 13-14 that included Nader after his February 24 announcement of candidacy on Meet the Press. The Zogby poll showed Nader receiving 5 percent against an Obama-MaCain match-up, with Barack Obama receiving 39 percent and John McCain receiving 44 percent. With Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee, the Zogby poll had Nader at 6 percent, with Clinton at 39 percent and McCain at 45 percent. (http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1467)
A national poll by Fox News conducted March 18-19 found 14 percent of voters would "seriously consider" voting for Nader, including 10 percent of Democrats, 14 percent of Republicans, and 21 percent of independents. (http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/032008_release_web.pdf)
An April 3-8 poll conducted in Michigan by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA on April 3-8 showed Mr. Nader receiving 8 percent in match-up against Obama (43 percent) and McCain (41 percent) and Nader receiving 10 percent against Clinton (37 percent) and McCain (46 percent). An April 15 statement from the Nader campaign said these polls show "we're on our way up. It has been our contention all along that the corrupt two-party system cannot stand."
Howie Hawkins of the Green Party agrees. "As Nader forces a discussion of the real issues, it will become increasingly clear to voters that McCain, Obama, and Clinton all intend to continue the US military occupation of the Middle East and increase military spending over the 2008 budget, which is $1.1 trillion if you include military spending in all departments. That means no money for schools, jobs, housing, infrastructure, or clean energy and climate protection. Nader is the only candidate who opposes that bipartisan consensus. Millions of voters are going to respond positively," Hawkins said.
